Hughes Chosen to Fill New Role in Ottawa

A northern face will be more prominent in the federal government as Carol Hughes has taken on the duties of the Assistant Deputy Speaker and Deputy Chair of Committee in Parliament.

The MP of Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing started her new duties yesterday morning during debates in parliament.

Hughes says she’s hoping this will make the northern’s voice a little louder in the federal government moving forward.

She says she didn’t have much time to consider the position as she was notified Friday it was her’s if she wanted it.
