Good news for new home owners, the proposed Municipal Land Tax will not be passed into legislation.
MPP of Timmins-James Bay, Gilles Bisson says the tax was intended as a band-aid the province’s ailing costs.
He says many costs are being down-loaded by the province to municipalities and having home owners picking up the tab was one way to alleviate that.
The tax would be charged to new home owners by a municipality simply for taking control of a new property, in some cases totalling $10,000.
The tax would have meant more money for the towns and cities in Ontario but it would be at a potentially high cost to home owners.
