New parking meters have been installed around Kapuskasing.
Manager of Protective Services Gerry Demeules says the date for activation is still pending.
He says the meters can be easily moved, are guaranteed through the winter months, even though they are solar powered and may even have a smart phone app sometime in the future.
He says a grace period will be in place for the first month as the transition from old parking meters begins.
The new meters will have a drive-thru option in the middle of the Circle and time will be transferable to all municipal parking throughout town.
Demeules says he’s concerned for the elderly in the wintertime having to walk further to the machine in some cases.
He says to address the issue they town may purchase more machines for the Circle.
