A new Municipal Land Tax handed down by the province could impact Northeastern home owners greatly.
MPP of Timmins-James Bay, Gilles Bisson says this tax is just a band-aid for the province’s inability to cover costs.
He says the province has down-loaded many costs to municipalities and this tax will leave home owners picking up the tab.
Bisson says it could mean new home owners will face costs near $10,000 just for assuming a new property when they purchase a home.
He says the bill is currently in committee which gives the public an opportunity to provide feedback.
