Discussion Continues on Black Bear Hunt Expansion

Discussion continues on the expansion of the black bear hunt to include the spring season.

The MNR says currently every province with a black bear population holds both hunting seasons except for Ontario and Nova Scotia.

The pilot program going through to 2020 is still open for public comment and discussion.

The province says the expansion of the bear hunt is due to a rise in human and bear interactions, the sustainable population and to help economic growth and tourism in the Northeast.

Under the proposed plan it will still be illegal to hunt cubs and females with cubs, doing so would mean criminal charges and fines of up to $25,000.

The deadline is November 30th, you can check in here to give your two cents.
