Debate Continues Over Energy East Pipeline

Despite what opposing groups claim, moving oil through a pipeline is one of the safest ways to transport the material.

That’s according to Trans Canada which wants to transport unrefined oil from Alberta to refineries in Eastern Canada.

Part of the pipeline takes the oil through Northeastern Ontario and some communities oppose this for fear of ruptures.

But company spokesman Stefan Baranski says studies prove the method is sound and safe.

Baranski says a big problem for TransCanada is correcting wrong information reporters get from groups opposed to the project.

He says this is an ongoing thing because the media tends to go after the loudest voices.

Baranski says TransCanada deals with facts and the National Energy Board holds it accountable to those facts.
