Recent Mining Death Will be Addressed at Mine Safety Conference

The death last week of a Sudbury miner took place just as the city gets ready to host an international conference on mine safety.

The conference, which is now underway, is the first time the event has ever taken place in Canada.

Fifty-four-year-old Richard Pigeau was killed when he was hit underground by mining equipment last Tuesday.

The Ministry of Labour has wrapped up its on-site investigation and has up to a year to lay charges if anyone was to blame.

The conference could benefit many mines in region including Detour near Cochrane, Kidd Creek in Timmins and the Victor mine near James Bay.
