Food Shortage Leading Bears into Northern Communities

OPP detachments say they haveĀ been responding to numerous bear complaints in northeastern communities.

The Regional Outreach Specialist with the MNR for Kapuskasing and Hearst, Heather Pridham says our late spring and widespread frost in May might be to blame.

She says this caused less of their food sources to blossom and grow fruit.

Pridham says storing your garbage securely and properly cleaning barbecues are great ways to prevent bears from entering backyards.
