Health Agency Looking into Possible Cyclospora Outbreak

A nation-wide investigation is being conducted by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Cases of Cyclospora have been reported in B.C., Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.

Cyclospora is a single-cell parasite that is passed in human feces and if it comes into contact with food or water, it can affect anyone who consumes it.

Ontario has the highest amount of reported infections, with 77 in total.

The North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit says two cases have been reported this year in the North.

The Health Unit says just being safe with your produce, like washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly; washing your hands after using the bathroom and to thoroughly cook your vegetables goes a long way.

The source of the outbreak has yet to be identified.
