Health Sciences North in Sudbury may have made a potential breakthrough in cancer treatment.

A molecule called VR23 has been developed which appears to specifically target cancer cells.

Doctor Hoyun (hoy-in) Lee, a Senior Scientist from the Advance Medical Research Institute of Canada says there’s still a long way to go in the development of the synthetic molecule.

 

According to the study, VR23 appears to also work well in combination with other cancer-fighting drugs while possibly reducing toxic side effects.

According to the AMRIC the drug could potentially be developed into a stand-alone drug for cancer treatment.
