FONOM has announced its support for the Energy East project.

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities says the demand for fossil fuels could double, supported by numbers from the Canadian Energy Research Institute.

The Energy East project has suffered financial set-backs, including running over budget.

Members of Parliament like Tom Muclair of the NDP and the Liberal’s Justin Trudeau have both raised questions and criticized the federal pipeline review process.

Oil is currently transported by rail through our region and FONOM says a major factor in support of the project is the increased safety a pipeline brings.
