Safety a Main Concern on our Rivers and Lakes

There are many ways we can stay safe in our Northeastern rivers and lakes.

2014 saw the fewest boater-related deaths in a decade according to Police.

Staff Sergeant Baldassare Nuccio of the Kapuskasing and Hearst OPP detachment says letting someone know you’re heading out onto the water could help keep you safe, a better understanding of your boat can go a long way and he says there are a wide range of resources at the Police’s disposal if you are in need of assistance.

There have been two major incidents involving our region’s Police marine units in the last few weeks.

One incident resulted in the death of a female swimming in the Moose River and a group of kayakers that were saved near James Bay after the tide swept them off a sand-bar in the night.
