Honouring past Northern College presidents seen as a look both back and ahead

From O.E. Walli to Audrey J. Penner, Northern College has unveiled portraits of the eight people who have been president of the institution over its 56-year existence.

Board of Governors chair Carly Stringer says it’s important to recognize where Northern has been.

“It’s significant in terms of taking a moment to reflect and appreciate the college’s past as we look forward to a really exciting future,” she comments.

“The college has a history of a lot of creative and vibrant presidents who really have been acting in the best interests of the college and students and our communities to try and move forward.”

Current president Dr. Audrey Penner was joined by her immediate predecessor, Dr. Fred Gibbons, in pulling the cover off the portraits at the Timmins campus.

Another president, Michael Hill, joined the event via livestream from Portugal.
