Bay Dip welcomes 49 jumpers and new date for event

The Kapuskasing Rotary Club’s Bay Dip Challenge has broken a record for the number of people taking the plunge for charity. Organizer Don McInnis says the club was able to hit 49 participants in a rather short period of time.

“We hit those numbers within six days,” he said. “It was amazing and we still had people calling trying to get in so we’re really excited about that.”

The Bay Dip is moving from its customary late February date to Saturday, March 11 to help kick-off the first weekend of the Town of Kap’s Big Winter Festiglace.

“Just hoping that we would get warmer weather because we would like to see a lot more people come out and support the jumpers,” he said. “Last year with the strong winds people would come out and support their individual jumper and then leave because it was just too cold on the ice.”

Last year over $31,000 was raised for various charities, and McInnis thinks the Dip will be on target to hit that mark or even exceed it.
