More than 16,300 new immigrants settled in Francophone minority communities across Canada over the past year – helping the federal government meet its 4.4 percent target of French-speaking immigrants outside of Quebec in 2022.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship minister Sean Fraser made the announcement in Sturgeon Falls. He says it’s a significant milestone and reflects the importance and contribution of French-speaking immigrants to the vitality and development of Francophone communities.
Officials say this is the largest number of French-speaking immigrants outside Quebec that the country has welcomed since the data began to be recorded in 2006.
