Humboldt bus crash survivor coming to Timmins with a healing from trauma message

A survivor of the 2018 Humboldt Broncos hockey team bus crash that killed 16 people and injured 13 is speaking in Timmins next Tuesday.

Centreman Tyler Smith suffered several broken bones and a stroke.  He now travels, talking about the mental aspect: how you’re not alone when healing after trauma.

Several community groups are bringing Smith to town… including the Chamber of Commerce. Senior policy analyst Cameron Grant says Smith uses the crash as a catalyst to share his story.

“While it’s tied uniquely to hockey, it certainly can be understood by loads of people who have participated in sports,” Grant notes. “But it also transcends sectors and industry and what have you.”

“Basically, it’s just him and a microphone on stage. It’s going to be engaging. All we’re doing is encouraging people to attend.”

One presentation is at lunch time at the Dante Club, followed by one in the evening at TH&VS.  Smith will take questions.

There is no admission charge, but you’re asked to donate to Sports for Kids Timmins, through the Chamber for Good fund.
