Val Rita water treatment plant gets funding from federal and provincial governments for go ahead

It’s full steam ahead for Val Rita’s new water treatment plant. The town received almost $4 million combined from the federal and provincial governments to fund the project along with its share of $1.2 million.

CAO Jimmy Cote says it’s the largest amount of funding the town has ever received. He adds that a Sudbury company will design the new facility.

“And we also have two public consultations for the residents of Val Rita to come up and ask questions and give their concern and comment on the situation,” he said. “If we keep the current schedule as we do have right now ,we can expect construction to start in February 2024.”

He adds that a completion date is several years after that.

“We are expecting two full calendar years to get this construction to be finalized,” he said. “While they are going to be doing the full renovation, we will have a mobile treatment plant that’s gonna be put in place to make sure the quality of water that is distributed is up to par.”

Val Rita has had water problems for many years with high levels of chlorine that causes problems for residents and the filtration system.
