OPP give numbers from Festive RIDE program in our region

Provincial police in our region have released numbers from the Festive RIDE program, which ran from November 17th until January 2nd.

The James Bay cluster has detachments covering the area from Cochrane to Hearst and up to Moosonee. The  South Porcupine cluster covers  Matheson to Iroquois Falls, west to Timmins and Foleyet and south to Gogama.

OPP say the numbers are higher than last year. That’s when 159 RIDE events resulted in seven drivers charged with ten offences in the James Bay territory; and in the South Porcupine catchment, only one charge was laid from 98 events.

JAMES BAY CLUSTER 2021-22

  • 135 RIDE events
  • 1,519 drivers checked
  • 11 charged with 19 impaired related offences
  • 3 warn range suspensions
  • 0 zero tolerance suspensions

SOUTH PORCUPINE CLUSTER 2021-22

  • 98 RIDE events
  • 1,241 drivers checked
  • 6 charged with 9 impaired related offences
  • 2 warn range suspensions
  • 1 zero tolerance suspensions
