Truth and Reconciliation blanket exercise Friday in Kap

The French Association for early childhood education is hosting a truth and reconciliation blanket exercise tomorrow from 1 to 4 at their offices at 50 Golf Street in Kapuskasing. Indigenous elder Peter Sackaney says everyone is invited out to participate and learn more about the history of the indigenous people.

“And it goes back before residential schools but it touches on residential schools and other things that took place along the way,” he said. “I think that it’s important for people to understand the history of indigenous people and what it really stands for.”

Sackaney says these types of activities are important to continue the conversation about truth and reconciliation.

“That we deliver this kind of education to the public,” he said. “As long as we keep on educating people about Indian residential Schools, we’re moving towards a true history of Canada.”

The guest speaker is Associate Professor Dani Kwan-Lafond of the University of Toronto-Scarborough. No pre-registration is required, but so far at least 20 people have confirmed their attendance. For further information contact Ann Parker at [email protected].
