During Festive RIDE or any time, impaired driving isn’t worth the risk: OPP

A roadside check for impaired drivers can pop up anywhere, any time, any day of the year.

Festive RIDE has launched for the holidays, so expect to encounter more of them.

OPP Constable Michelle Simard says any amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is too much when driving.

“We’re still charging people with impaired driving, whether it is by alcohol or drugs,” she observes. “One would think that hopefully in this day and age, people would get the message that this is dangerous. It has serious consequences.”

The consequences can be a criminal record,  higher insurance rates, and most importantly, you could kill yourself or someone else.

A snowmobile trail is also considered a road, and your machine a vehicle. Simard says police are patrolling on their own sleds.

“Whether you’re driving a snowmobile, an ATV, a boat, they’re all the same consequences,” she concludes. “We’re just hoping that people don’t think it’s worth the risk.”
