Nine Kap residents recognized during awards ceremony

Nine residents were recognized by Kapuskasing Town Council during a special awards recognition ceremony on Monday night.  Nicole Guertin who was a supporter of tourism in the north, will have a plaque in her memory at the Welcome Centre, while Canadian strong man Maxime Boudreault received a key to the town. Awards recognition committee chairperson Guylaine Scherer says all of those chosen are remarkable people.

“It is just the amount of time that has been volunteered and dedicated to make sure that Kapuskasing is a great play to to live, to work, to play,” she said. “The fact that we have people coming out from different sectors in the community who have different interests.”

Those receiving medallions as community builders were Amanda Rickard, Rita Seguin, Emma Van Alstine, Sue Renaud, Gilbert Peters, Wendy Guillemette and Luc Gagnon.

Scherer says this is first of what will be an annual event

“As of now people can submit nominations for those that are deserving an award during the next ceremony that will take part in the next year,” she said.
