Town of Hearst exploring funding options to help Foyer des Pionniers expansion project

The Town of Hearst is helping Foyer Des Pionniers nursing home with funding options for a major expansion project. Chief Administrative Officer Eric Picard says nursing home is looking to add 12 beds at a cost of nearly $4.8 million.

“Currently we just applied for a loan through infrastructure Ontario,” he said. “They offer favourable loans when they offer loans for key infrastructure compared to private lenders or other banks. Better interest rates or payment terms.”

Picard says all of the town councillors touched on making the nursing home a priority during the recent municipal election. He adds it could take anywhere from six months to a year to hear from the province regarding financial approval.

“But the time it takes can vary greatly,” he said. “It can be a couple of months to maybe like half a year. We did a similar process for another corporation and it took a little under a year to hear back.”

If funding is approved then construction could start next year.
