ATV drivers causing problems for Town of Kap especially on Government Road

The mayor of Kapuskasing says the town is losing its patience with all-terrain vehicle drivers especially along Government Road. Dave Plourde says the ATVs are driving along the railway line and that’s not permitted and they could face charges. He adds that the vehicles are ruining the freshly planted grass and kicking up dust, making it unsafe for drivers.

“The damage is starting to show and it’s unfortunate really because there is a lot of money spent to beautify that section of the highway,” he said. “And it just does not look nice now.”

Plourde says there is a similar problem along Avenue Road near Murdock Street where ATVs have taken chunks out of the grass.

He adds that if the problems persist then the town’s hands might be forced.

“Another way to mitigate this is to revisit where ATVs are permitted to drive and where they are permitted to access certain areas,” he siad. “And if it means we have to broaden the area for which ATVs cannot travel and that’s something we are going to have to look at if it doesn’t fix itself.”

As of now, ATVs are not allowed on any of the streets in the main downtown core by the circle.
