Highway billboards in Kap and Hearst promote importance of sustainable forests

From now on, driving through Kapuskasing and Hearst on Hwy. 11, you’ll spot a billboard promoting healthy forests in each town.

The signs are  a project of Forests Ontario.  CEO Rob Keen says it participates in tree planting projects… education and public awareness about the importance of forests economically… socially… and environmentally.

The billboards are among 25 going up right across the North.

“The one here in Kapuskasing happens to be a message about the benefits of sustainably produced forest products in addressing climate change,” Keen tells y Kapuskasing Now Dot Com.

The one in Hearst carries a similar message.

“(It) speaks to the homes and the communities and really just focussing in on again getting that message out to the public about how important our forests are.”

Keen says Canada has 38% of the world’s forests, and third party certification that they’re the best managed.
