It happened Friday afternoon at Watabeag Lake, near Matheson. The 60 year old was walking with a friend, when the bear attacked. She was sent to hospital to be treated, and has since been released. Police found the bear in the area after the attack, when it showed aggressiveness towards the officers. Police were forced to put it down, citing officer safety. In the Northeast we are closer to larger wildlife like Moose and Bears, even sometimes wandering into town.
