Forest Fires in Northern Ontario

Two new forest fires were sparked this week, but the danger in Timmins is still rated low to moderate.

However Chapleau and Foleyet are both at a high risk, while Elliot Lake and the Soo are at extreme.

There are ten fires blazing in the North East right now, with seven of them in the far North.

With the recent climb in forest fires, the M-N-R is reminding everyone to be careful with their camp fires.

There is no fire ban, but they still say to pick a site for your fire that is close to water and sheltered from wind.

It needs to be 15 metres away from tents and buildings, and about two metres wide. Never leave it unattended, and make sure it’s fully out before you walk away.
