Off-leash dog park un-officially opens in Kapuskasing

The off-leash dog park is unofficially open in Kapuskasing at the former Val Albert Ball Park. Dog park committee chairperson Tricia Papineau says one of the two gates has arrived and it still doesn’t have a transition area. She invites dog owners to come and give it a try.

“The dogs can go in safely, and you don’t have to worry about the dogs escaping,” she said. “So I’m happy to say that many people are using it and a lot of people are happy about it.”

She adds dog park etiquette rules have been put up at the park as well as available on the park’s Facebook page so owners know what is expected of them and their dog.

“I really encourage everyone to go and research to make sure you know,” she said. “You don’t want to be the owner of that dog that makes everyone’s experience a negative one without knowing maybe some people are not following certain etiquette.”

Fundraising is expected to start in the next several weeks including a toonie drive. More information on the off-leash dog park can be found on its Facebook page.
