Youth Council to be set up in Kapuskasing

A Kapuskasing high school teacher is looking at setting up a youth council by the end of the month. Emma Dagenais says the council involves representation from all elementary and high schools in the community and allows the students to create special projects.

“And request that they choose 2 to 3 students however they see that best whether they choose them or whether they are voted in,” she said. “We would come together and form a committee.”

Dagenais, who is a member of the Breanna Plourde Memorial Fund committee, says the youth council is something that would honour some of the work that Brianna did in the community.

She adds that the council would be much different than the youth wellness hub program.

“We would be focused on meeting with students during the school day just to get mass participation and work with families because you know with activities after school and the commitments families have,” she said. “We want to make sure we have large involvement from the community.”

The first meeting is expected to take place by the end of this month.
