The Timmins area is keeping the Natural Resources and Forestry fire crews busy. There are three active forest fires in the region with the largest 4.6 hectares south of Timmins near Kenogamissi Lake that was confirmed last Thursday. Communications specialist Isabelle Chenard says that fire is now under control.
“And a Seal 415 water bomber as well as a bird dog air craft were on the scene,” she said. “So since then fire rangers will continue to work to establish a perimeter around the fire. There are two fire ranger crews that remain committed to fire suppression efforts today.”
Chenard says a fire that started over the weekend near Nighthawk and Grassy Lakes is now declared out. Timmins 13 is located near a small island at Horwood Lake and it’s not under control. Chapleau 14 is south of Highway 144 and is being held by fire crews.
Chenard reminds you to be careful if you see MNRF fire crews in the same area that you’re camping or fishing in.
“And if you are out on the waterways, and you happen to see a water bomber – they’re really cool to watch ,” she said. “But we do ask you to please move over to the side of the lake so they can perform their scoop safely and tend to the fire.”
Despite all of the rain, the forest fire rating in the northeast is currently high, and Chenard says everyone should be fire safe and mindful of the conditions.
