Construction on Government Road going well according to Town of Kap officials

It’s been a smooth start to construction season on a section of Government Road east in Kapuskasing, according to the public works general manager Eric Cote. He notes the water main was recently installed and now construction crews are adding a third lane from Gurney Road to the Service Master Business.

“And we’ve started recently the vertical realignment so basically cutting down that hill,” he said. “So when you are driving by you can definitely see that there are two different elevations in the road. Bottom elevation is the new elevation of the road which will allow for better visibility of traffic.”

Cote says even though there are still traffic delays and some long line-ups, it isn’t that long of a wait time.

“Not as much as the bridge construction last year which was very bad,” he said. “This year traffic is moving fine but every contractor that works in Kapuskasing is always amazed by the volume of traffic that we do have going through the town.”

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
