Flyers organization respects town council’s decision hopes to work with them again

The President of the Kapuskasing Flyers U18 hockey team says the organization was unaware that the agreement or ice time was going to be discussed at last night’s town council meeting. Jimmy Cote says the team respects the decision of council to end the 10 year agreement, but adds that it didn’t include free ice-time, and some of the proceeds from the games such as the bar were put towards ice.

“And we are going to approach town council within the next few weeks maybe with a proposal see how we can work together and make this a win-win situation for us and the town of Kapuskasing,” he said.

Cote says the agreement not ending until the conclusion of the 2023 season, gives the Flyers time to work with council to resolve the issue.

“We have businesses that have been with the flyers since maybe day one that will contribute to this day,” Fundraising campaign is on the way. We’re going to try and find other opportunities to raise some funds to make sure that the Flyers program keeps going and goes stronger.”

He adds that the Flyers organization has always been about the players and making them better people after their time with the team.
