Kapuskasing’s Dog Park could open by early August

It looks like it will be August before the Dog Park officially opens in Kapuskasing. That’s the word from dog park committee chairperson Tricia Papineau who pointed out that it’s waiting on the Town of Kap to order gates that have to be installed at the former Val Albert Ball Park.

“The gates have been ordered, but we are not sure when we are going to receive them,” she said. “Everyone knows with COVID a lot of stuff takes a long time to arrive and once they arrive we will set them up.”

She adds the town will take care of the dog park, while the committee is responsible for amenities inside through fundraising.

“So that is what we are working on right now mostly fundraising,” she said. “You will see some donation jars at businesses throughout town. We already have some donations from businesses so we are starting to collect some money to get the whole thing organized.”

The Dog Park is one year trial basis and if all goes well it could become permanent. The park will feature a gated transition area plus sections for large and small dogs. Papineau hopes to have a special opening so people can bring their dogs out and talk to committee members.
