Autism workshops held across our region this week

Hands, an organization that helps families and caregivers with children who have Autism are planning one day clinics this week across the region. The clinics will be held starting in Hearst and Kapuskasing tomorrow and continue in Cochrane and Iroquois Falls on Wednesday and Thursday. Hands Program Manager Paula Barnes says the organization has tried to offer in-person clinics where possible because virtual doesn’t work with everyone.

“The last couple of years there have been some huge changes to the OAP which have been really difficult for families across Ontario to understand, but particular the north where there’s simply less providers and less options available to them,” she said. “The clinics bring support directly to the communities across Northern Ontario so the families have full access to services.

Barnes says a variety of different areas will be covered during the workshops.

“Attendees have a chance to attend the various training sessions, access different resources and information. And meet one-to-one with clinicians to help put families on the right track in their own journey around the world of autism.”
