Pleasure craft operating card classes in Kapuskasing next weekend

Classes to get a pleasure craft operating card are coming to Kapuskasing next weekend. Two sessions take place on Saturday, July 16 from 10 am to noon and 2 to 4 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion. Lifesaving Society instructor Brigitte Labby-Tessier says these classes are a must.

“Every boater 8 years of age and older who wants to operate a motorized vessel in Canada is required to get a pleasure craft operator card,” she said. “Otherwise they could face a fine of two hundred and fifty dollars.”

She adds a number of topics will be covered prior to taking the test.

“Who has the right of way versus who may not,” she said. “You will learn new ways to attract attention when you are in distress, understand the buoy system on our waters for navigation. How to be prepared before you take that two hour or two day trip, on the water.”

Labby-Tessier says the courses fill up quickly so people should register early. Here is a link to the Northern Ontario Safe Boating Facebook page or contact her at [email protected].
