Sensenbrenner Hospital facing nursing shortage like other hospitals across the country

The chief administrative officer of Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing says finding nurses has become a challenge for health care facilities. France Dallaire says the hospital could easily hire 12 registered nurses if they were available. She adds that the hospital is getting some help.

“Right now we are working with quite a few agency nurses because we are not able to recruit,” she said. “We are aggressively trying to do so.”

Dallaire adds that the hospital is doing whatever it takes to create competitive employment packages.

“Retention bonuses, and we are working on ensuring full-time work instead of part-time, like even then the competition is extremely fierce,” she said. “And the market for those nurses is very competitive.”
