Second operating room at Sensenbrenner Hospital could be open later this summer

A second operating room at Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing is much closer to reality. The hospital and its foundation have announced that they’re just less than 28-thousand dollars away from the fundraising target… and it could be up and running by the end of summer.

Chief Administrative Officer France Dallaire says the hospital received a grant of over $235,000 from the Ministry of Health that was at first denied.

“I think it was at the end of the year there were surpluses at the Ministry level, and our OH reps did do some lobbying for our small hospital,” she said.

Foundation Director Denis Berube says it’s getting closer to the finish line

“Foundation board members agreed to continue to work on this goal to help equip the second operating room,” he said. “However, the foundation needed to shift its fundraising focus and purchase colonoscopy equipment which is a very important surgical tool.”

Berube says the foundation received a generous donation of $5,000 from the Dennis Rossi family.  Hospital officials say some of the equipment is on order and should arrive in the coming months.
