If your children are interested in learning about gardening, the Kapuskasing Horticultural Society is holding a container gardener event on Saturday. It takes place from 9 am to 1 pm at the Centre de Sante parking lot. Society president Anne Jamieson says if last year’s event is any indication this should be well attended.
“We prepared 50 kits and they were all spoken for, and there was a waiting list so this year we purchased 75 kits,” she said. “So we are hoping for a great turnout. It’s a first- come-first-serve event.”
The kits consist of a 15 litre pot, and a choice of seeds such as tomatoes, peas, lettuce and radishes to name a few. Jamieson says Horticultural society members will be on hand to provide gardening tips.
“So they will tell them how deep to plant the seed, how far apart, how to look after it, to water it, and to fertilize it,” she said. “There will also be sheets available in both languages also have instructions of how to care for it.”
Jamieson says the families will be given a link to the society’s Facebook page where they can learn more about gardening and even win prizes.
