Two streets identified for housing development in Smooth Rock Falls

With mining development including the Canada Nickel Project starting to move quickly in our region, Smooth Rock Falls has begun to look at housing to attract workers. Mayor Sue Perras says all of the lots the town had for sale were sold quickly and more calls are still coming, including some to her.

“So I can imagine our economic development area, they are probably still getting some calls also,” she said. “I’m getting questions just asking what it is that we can offer them. So I keep forwarding them to economic development. so no it hasn’t stopped people are still inquiring.”

Council recently approved a 20 year master plan that includes not only the development of the Mattagami River waterfront but the potential of housing. Perras says the consultants identified 8th Avenue Crescent and Junction Road as housing development areas.

“There are all types of housing like duplexes, and condos and single family detached homes,” she said. “So the consultants will look at that and place the homes in those areas, so we can see if this is something we can work with.”
