North East Ontario Collisions

The O-P-P are asking drivers to be more vigilant to prevent collisions involving moose on our highways.

Staff Sergeant Dan Foy says public safety is their number one concern.

This after it’s revealed from April to July of this year nearly 50-percent of all collisions in the region involved a moose.

Drivers can help prevent the chance of being involved in a collision with a moose by adjusting their speed, adhering to moose crossing signage – which are strategically placed in areas that they congregate in – and keeping a sharp eye on highway shoulders.

If you do encounter a moose on our roadways do not honk your horn as you may startle, or even worse, provoke it. Simply pull over, turn on your hazard lights and wait for the animal to leave the area.
