The Town of Kap could be debt free in the next few years according the accounting firm of Baker Tilly. Accountant Chad Lauzon says the financial situation is improving with the debt shrinking from $12.2 million four years ago to $3.14 million in 2021. Mayor Dave Plourde says its great news but credit goes to previous council for getting the ball rolling.

“We are now making sure the council that comes in that takes over from us either it’s us or some other council that is elected in place – that it was better than what we took over,” he said.

Plourde says the town has faced a lot of challenges in that time including the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think staff is doing a really good job at providing us good information and providing us with all of the tools to be able to do that,” he said. “I think it’s everyone working together and working hard. We’re gonna get there so it’s great news for us.”
