Public meeting this week for proposed dog park in Kap

The Town of Kap needs your help to see if the former Val Albert Ball Park should be converted into an off-leash dog park. An information session is set for this Thursday at 6 pm where you can listen to the dog park committee’s proposal as well as provide input. Recreation Director Marc Clavelle says the park would be on a one year trial with an opportunity to make it permanent.

“There’ll be some minor alterations let’s say and even temporary alterations with fencing and temporary fencing to set up gating and also an area to set up for larger dogs and smaller dogs,” he said.

The park would feature few picnic tables and water stations for the pets to start with and then the parking lot cleared for winter use.

Clavelle says if the dog park becomes permanent then more features could be added.

“You know toys or obstacle courses stuff you might see in other dog parks that may come in the future when the committee looks at fundraising,” he said. “Maybe building a shelter like the one in Timmins. There are different ideas.”

If you can’t attend the meeting on Thursday, then you’re asked to submit your thoughts in writing or via email.
