Town of Kap and Centre de Loisirs agree to purchase new staging equipment

The Town of Kap and the Centre de Loisirs have joined forces for new staging equipment that will help draw bigger shows to the community. The equipment is worth $21,500 with the Centre covering $13,500 and the town giving $8,000. During this week’s council meeting, town officials believed that the money would come from the hotel/motel tax. Centre Executive Director Denik Dorval says the new stage is important to the local economy.

“So I was very happy to see we have the same vision from the town and the Centre de Loisirs because I think working together is the best thing,” he said. “There’s no need for competition between our own events. I think we have to be more strategic that we can host events with different dates.”

Dorval says the new stuff will solidify the town’s reputation with performers and musicians.

“We’ve always been known in Kapuskasing to be a great host for artists around Canada,” he said. “So I think our artists are going to be very happy that we have a professional stage also.”

He adds that the equipment should arrive just in time for the St. Jean Festival late next month.
