Kap Mayor says the government plans for the Northlander look good so far

One of the good news stories in the region recently has been the work to get the Northlander back on the rails within the next three years. The province recently announced funding to build a terminal in Porcupine and add a secondary train from Cochrane to Timmins. Kapuskasing Mayor Dave Plourde hopes that province is not done yet and will look at better linking up the Model Town and Hearst.

“Certainly I’d like to see the reinstatement of Northland that would connect Hearst to Cochrane as well,” he said. “I don’t think that would be for my future goals, but something I’d like to see down the road.”

Plourde says so far everything looks good.

“I think with the new schedule that they’re proposing I think it will really add to the services for Northern Ontario and be betterment to the services we have existing right now,” he said.
