Brunelle Road North could be up next for road construction in Kap

It looks like Kapuskasing is going to be a construction zone over the next few years. Not only will work proceed on Government Road from Gurney Road to the Service Master business, but now Brunelle Road North could be the next up as early as next summer. The Town of Kap received a combined $3.6 million from the Federal and Provincial governments for a portion of the street from Government Road to the Sports Palace. Mayor Dave Plourde says the town anticipated that the grant might be approved, but noted that these big projects take time to get put together.

“We’re looking forward to it,” he said. “I think it’s in dire need and I think everybody can recognize and has to be done and probably should have been done a long time ago, but you know we are doing everything we can to fix what we have.”

Plourde says council will have to make a decision regarding adding another extension of road in town to keep traffic flowing.

“The fact that we can’t have that road closed down for the traffic,” he said. “To provide us a secondary way in is something that council will have to have a look at and identify is what we have to do to ensure traffic and business keeps going.”

The mayor hopes that there will be extra funding available in the future to complete the remainder of Brunelle Road North up to Brunetville.
