New day program launched by Cochrane-Temiskaming Alzheimer Society

A new day program is underway in Kapuskasing and in Hearst for those who suffer from Alzheimer’s and their families. Cochrane-Temiskaming Alzheimer Society Executive Director Tracy Koskamp-Bergeron says the new program got underway in both communities earlier this week thanks to funding they received from the Canadian Red Cross. She adds the program offers a safe place and activities for those who have been diagnosed with dementia.

“Give the caregivers a break that they can go and tend to the things that they need to do. Whether it’s grocery shopping, laundry, meal preparation even just to take a well needed rest we’re there to provided that support for them. And they know the loved one is in a safe place.

She adds that the program will be offered for a limited amount of days.

“We are starting with a maximum of five clients per day. When we get up and running and staff are in a good routine we will have 10 people per day in Kapuskasing and three people per day in Hearst.
