Hearst among four communities receiving money from federal and provincial governments

The Town of Hearst is one of four area communities to receive money from the federal and provincial governments to help with water infrastructure improvements. New CAO Eric Picard says the project is worth just over $1.36 million with close to a million coming from the feds and the province combined.

“We are basically going to work on the reservoir, and our clear water plant so that is our internal plant so there won’t be any interruption either at the time of repairs and maintenance,” he said.

Picard says the project is nearly ready to go.

“So our tenders are almost ready to be released but we are still waiting on a couple of details on the contract for the funding,” he said. “Once that’s signed and done then it will go right away.”

The Town of Kapuskasing and the Community of Val Rita-Harty is each getting over $3.6 million from the governments. The Town of Kap will fix the water main on Brunelle Road North as part of a big project, while Val Rita-Harty is completely renovating its wastewater treatment plant. More than $100,000 is going to Mattice-Val Cote to improve its water treatment plant.
