Longtime member of Kap Flyers organization takes over as Head Coach

A long time member of the Kapuskasing Flyers organization is now the team’s newest Head Coach. Darren Potvin takes over from Sheldon Reasbeck who decided not to return for another season. Potvin says serving as an Assistant Coach and even as General Manager will help him in his new role.

“I’ve done it under two different coaches Glen Denney and Sheldon Reasbeck,” he said. “Both guys who have completely different styles of coaching, but also two guys that have an extreme amount of knowledge when it comes to the game of hockey. So I think I have learned a lot with the two different styles, two different approaches to the game.”

Potvin says the past two years have been a challenge for players and coaches due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now believes there is normalcy ahead.

“We have our spring tryout coming up this upcoming Friday,” he said. “Another session in two Sundays in Hearst. I think getting that same routine in and having that off-ice training throughout the summer will help. We will get back to a normal tryout window in the end of August.”

The Flyers hosted the league championship tournament last month but failed to quality for the semi-finals.
