Liberals name candidate for riding in upcoming provincial election

The Liberals finally have their candidate for the Mushkegowuk-James Bay Riding in the upcoming provincial election. Smooth Rock Falls school teacher Matt Pronovost has thrown his hat into the political ring. Pronovost says a little nudging from his students and changes to education the past few years helped him make his final decision.

“You know they thought I would be pretty good at this position so I kind of brushed it off and just kept going about my job,” he said. “But these last couple of years especially under the Ford Government have just been unsustainable and been awful for public education.”

Pronovost says it’s been a while since the riding has been served by a member of a sitting government.

“For over 20 years, so I think that now is a good time to elect a Liberal representative to give us that voice to give us that seat at the table,” he said. “So definitely there will be challenges of going up against a well-known incumbent but I welcome them and I feel that 2022 is our year.”

He adds that the riding has so many unique communities that he’s looking forward to getting on the road and meeting voters and talking about issues.
