GreenFirst Kap Mill gets more money from province

More money from the province is coming to the Green First Forest Products Kapuskasing Mill.

The Labour, Training and Skills Development Minister Monte McNaughton announced $1.2 million to help over 100 people train for apprenticeships, and careers in the pulp and paper industry.

The project will create 45 new jobs, train 66 new employees, and upskill 40 current employees to work on the number four paper machine to create new paper products.

GreenFirst Chariman Paul Rivett says the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many challenges for the paper industry and this funding will help the mill.  He adds the company will focus on those people who have skill and an interest in the manufacturing industry.

Earlier this week, the province announced $400,000 to help with upgrades to new machine that will produce Envirosmart paper like sandwich wrappers.
