The provincial government is putting up $7.3-million for Northern College to train 500 health care workers across its four campuses.

Labour, Training and Skills Development Minister Monte McNaughton says there’s no tuition involved.

“This training of $7-million dollars to provide free training and paid job placements for 500 people will go a long way in northern communities,”  he says, adding that the training is short duration.

“It’s from 15 weeks up to two semesters to train people for jobs as health care service workers, PSWs (personal support), food service workers and personal support assistants.”

McNaughton says it will help fill in-demand jobs in long term care homes and hospitals.
